General Information & Things To Do
Interstate State Park is part of the Minnesota State Parks system, located along the St. Croix River in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. The park offers two main hiking trails, one of which follows the cliff along the river. There are plenty of scenic overlooks, offering gorgeous views of the river, especially during the fall when leaf colors are at their peak. Perhaps the most interesting part of the park is the unique geological formations known as glacial potholes. The park contains over a hundred potholes, varying in size from a few inches across to more than 5 feet in diameter. The biggest potholes are along the paths and well-marked, but you can discover many smaller ones by exploring along the cliffs. In addition to the hiking and pothole-exploring, the river is a great place to go canoeing or kayaking. The park also offers a unique opportunity for rock climbing.
Parking
There are two main parking areas within the park, one by the campground at the south end of the park and the other near the glacial potholes at the north end of the park. The park can get quite crowded and the northern parking lot can fill up on busy holiday weekends, such as Labor Day. If you plan to visit on a holiday weekend it is best to arrive earlier in the morning. It is $5 for a daily vehicle pass into the park. Another option is the Minnesota State Parks annual pass ($25) which is good for all Minnesota State parks for one year from date of purchase.
